GIAQUINTO, Silvio Silvio Giaquinto, 92, of Ellington. Silvio was born September 22, 1911 in Caserta, Italy, son of the late Louis and Teresa (DeRibas) Giaquinto. As a professional musician, Silvio went by the name Sy Quinto. He studied violin with his father, as well as Louis Eaton and Jacques Gordon, and piano with Jesse Downer Eaton. Silvio toured on the road, playing violin with Barney Rapp and His New Englanders from 1931 to 1937, did recording work in N.Y. with conductor and composer Alphonso D'Artega in 1938-39, played violin with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, as well as performing on the violin, piano and organ with the Paul Landerman Orchestra beginning in 1939. While in the Army during World War II, Silvio performed with the Army Symphony Orchestra, Marching Band and Big Band for the soldiers and public while stationed at Fort Devens, MA, and Camp Lee, VA. After the war, Silvio returned to Hartford, to play again with his friend Paul Landerman and his Orchestra before starting and performing in his own group in the Hartford area for many enjoyable years with Seymour Rosenberg, Everett Vale, and Sal Cugno. Silvio was also a teacher at the Hartford Conservatory of Music from 1963 to 1983, himself being a student there in the 1920's. He also composed many songs and did arrangements for many of the musical groups he was in. He was a member of the Musicians Union, Local 400 for over 60 years as well as serving on the Union Board. Besides his parents, Silvio was predeceased by his brother, Mario, also a musician; and sisters, Anna Coniglione and Adeline Nigrelli. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lucille, and children, Lisa and Marc, all of Ellington; two nieces, Angela Dandurand of Old Saybrook, and Joanne Breen of Newington; and a nephew, Charles Nigrelli, Jr. of Wethersfield, and in-laws, Anthony and Helen Maiorano of Marlborough and Camille Essel of Forestville. In his later years, Silvio enjoyed retreats at St. Joseph's Abbey, in Spencer, MA, and was grateful to his friends there- Father Simon O.C.S.O., and Father Edward O.C.S.O. The family would also like to thank our Pastor, Father Joseph and his assistants, Father Anzelm and Father Thaddeus for their help in Silvio's last years as well as Dr. Michael Sharon and his staff for their good care since his first heart attack in 1973. Silvio was a member of St. Joseph Church, Rockville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, August 30, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 33 West St., Rockville. Interment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery, Rockville Section of Vernon. Calling hours will be TODAY, from 4-7 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd., Rte 83, Vernon, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the North Central Hospice, 8 Keynote Dr., Vernon, CT 06066 or to the Rockville General Hospital Emergency Room Building Fund, 31 Union St., Vernon, CT 06066.
