FLIS, Stephen Albert
Stephen Albert Flis, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday (December 13, 2012). He was married to the former Gloria Holton, his Kappa Sigma sweetheart, partner and best friend for 63 years. Born in Baldwinville, MA, August 6th, 1921, he was the son of the late John and Agnes (Mazur) Flis. Steve graduated from Cushing Academy, Ashburnham, MA, the University of New Hampshire and earned a Master's degree from Boston University. 1st Lieutenant Flis fought in World War II with the 755th Field Artillery Battalion including the Battle of the Bulge, Bastogne, Belgium which he visited in peacetimes. Following 2 1/2 years as Town Manager of Lancaster, NH, Steve served the Town of Farmington as Manager from January 1955 to July 1985 with total dedication. From his retirement in 1985 to 2002 he was President of the Unionville Water Company. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Mark, son Michael and his wife Carol Sobuta, daughter Diane Nord and her husband Alan, his much beloved eight grandchildren, Adam and Beth K., Zachary, Alex and Robin, Jeffrey, Greg , Alison, Kirsten, and Eric and his great grandchildren, Sharon and Jack.
Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Monday (Dec. 17) from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stephen A. Flis Scholarship Fund, 1 Monteith Drive, Farmington, CT 06032.
