Steve A. Tobias, 81, of Berlin, died suddenly on Wednesday, (May 9, 2012). He was the beloved husband of Dorothy Tobias for 61 years, until her death on Jan. 5, 2012. Born in Hazelton, PA, he lived in Berlin for the last 50 years and was a member of St. Paul Church, Kensington. Mr. Tobias worked at Alcap in Middletown for many years and retired from Wiremold, West Hartford, 20 years ago. Steve enjoyed racing pigeons and his other interests included gardening, traveling, going to the casino and playing the lottery. Survivors include four daughters Patricia Cooper of Las Vegas, NV, Christine Ponte and her husband James of East Berlin, Sharon Fournier, and Karen Bylek and her husband John all of Berlin; six grandchildren James, Matthew, Jennifer, Sarah, Eric and Allison; four brothers Walter Tobias and Marvin Tobias both of Middlefield, Louis Tobias of Cromwell, and Thomas Tobias of Durham; five sisters Bernadine Miller in California, Marcella Leonard of Portland, Theresa Field of East Hampton, Monica Termine of Middletown, and Mary Young in Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by three brothers and three sisters. Steve will be deeply missed by his family, but they are comforted in knowing that he is reunited with the love of his life, Dorothy.
His funeral service will be held on Monday, 9 a.m., from Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at St. Paul's Church, Berlin. He will be laid to rest alongside his wife in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 - 4 p.m., at Burritt Hill.
