BOSWORTH, Dr. Terry Lee

Dr. Terry Lee Bosworth of Canton, formerly of Newport RI, peacefully passed away on the evening of Friday, (March 2, 2012) with her family by her side, after a long and complicated battle with an autoimmune disease. Terry was born on November 28, 1952 in Newport, RI to Jane B. Bosworth and the late William H. Bosworth. Terry was an exceptionally caring person born with the gift of communication, touching everyone she knew. Terry went to Rogers High School, graduating in 1970, and then attended St. Anselm's College in New Hampshire where she studied nursing and received her Bachelor's of Science degree, graduating in 1974. To further her dedication and love to her nursing career, Terry completed her graduate degree at the University of Rhode Island, and then successfully completed her PhD in education at the University of Connecticut. Terry had a passion for leadership and the teaching of others, and was known for putting everyone before herself. She was heavily involved in outreach programs like the Guyana Immersion Experience, as she liked to refer to as 'cultural immersion' in healthcare for her students. Terry's most memorable experience as an educator was when she worked for St. Joseph College in West Hartford. She dedicated 22 years to St. Joseph as Associate Professor of Nursing, and spent six years as Chairperson of the Department of Nursing. For her hard work and loyalty to the teachings of her nursing students, she was awarded the prestigious 2011 Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing. In Terry's spare time, she loved taking long walks with her beloved companions Jasmine, Buddy, and Maggie. Terry's care and devotion for animals drew her to help revive and find good homes for rescue animals. Among her other talents, Terry grew up playing the flute and really enjoyed her active lifestyle in hiking, biking, and camping, as well as surrounding herself with her home and nature of wild life and gardening. She leaves behind her life partner John K. Klimas of Ellington, one brother William D. Bosworth of Beaufort, SC, one sister Robin J. Bosworth of Newport, RI, one half sister Olive Jackson of Houston, TX, two nieces Allison E. Bosworth of Washington, DC, and Eliza J. Bosworth of Charleston, SC, one nephew Ethan T. Bosworth of Charleston, SC, and two step sons Gregory D. Matulis of New Britain and Brian T. Matulis of Palo Alto, CA.
Terry's family will receive friends Tuesday, March 6, from 2-4 p.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center, 303 Tunxis Road, West Hartford followed by a service honoring her life at 4 p.m. followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Another Chance for English Setters (ACES), c/o Trish Bloemker Sowers, Acct Mgr, 7009 Franklin Rd, Cranberry, PA, 16066, www.englishsettersrescue.org or to Angie's Spa, a spa providing services to alleviate painful side effects for patients receiving chemo and radiation treatments,www.angiesspa.org, or Angie's Spa, Attn: Kathleen Barry Conner, 414 Albermarle Rd., Unit 6A, Brooklyn, NY, 11218.
