On Monday, May 04, 2015, Thomas E. Claffey, 78 passed away at the Hebrew Home in West Hartford. Born on September 1, 1936, he was the son of the late William F. and Mary (Piszko) Claffey, and had been a lifelong resident of the Greater Hartford Area. Following High School, Mr. Claffey enlisted in the United States Air Force. After serving our great country, he was employed with Kaman as a helicopter mechanic, the Hartford Courant, and onto The Travelers in their Data Center. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with the State of Connecticut in the Department of Transportation's Financial Management contingency. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 38 years, Barbara A. (Warek) Claffey, his children, Michelle M. Claffey of East Hampton, Kevin C. Burgess of CA, Kevin P. Claffey and his wife Sandra of Burlington, Pamela A. Sousa and her husband Gary of Colchester, Thomas C. Burgess of Glastonbury, and Brian J. Claffey of Plymouth. He also leaves his 9 cherished grandchildren, Tao, Patrick, Megan, Mary, Amanda, Michael, Nicholas, Katherine, & Makenna. Funeral services will be celebrated on Friday May 8, at 8:30 AM from Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Avenue, Newington, CT 06111, with a 10:00 AM Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Patrick and St. Anthony Church, 285 Church Street, Hartford, CT 06103. Rites of Committal will follow the Mass at West Meadow Cemetery in Newington. Calling hours are scheduled for Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Funeral Home. Contributions in Mr. Claffey's name may be directed to the Church, or to the Alzheimer's Association, 200 Executive Blvd, Southington, CT 06489-1058.
