LUCE, Thomas Jeffrey Jr.

Thomas Jeffrey Luce, Jr., 27, of Sharpsville, IN, died unexpectedly August 1, 2013. He was born on October 13, 1985 in Vernon, to Thomas J. Luce, Sr. and Daryl (Washburn) Luce. Tom was the grandson of the late William and Joyce Washburn and is survived by his mother Daryl Stratford and husband William, Manchester, his father Thomas J. Luce, Sr. and wife Melisa, Ellington; siblings Ron Wendus, Vernon, Jessika Gossett and husband Jesse, Camp Pendleton, California and Tiffany Luce, Ellington; Grandparents Robert and Eleanor Luce, Vernon; Great Grandmother Jeanette Newman, Sabbatus, Maine; Grandmother Susan Chase and husband David, Winter Haven, FL; several uncles, aunts and cousins; wife Tabitha Luce, Sharpsville, Indiana and her family; and many friends and acquaintances. Tom resided in Vernon, Manchester and Ellington during his childhood years. He graduated from Ellington High School in 2004. Directly after graduation, Tom joined the United States Military and served his country as an active duty Ammunition Technician in the U.S. Marine Corps from August 2004 - August 2008, obtaining the rank of Corporal. He was an Iraqi War veteran, serving six months overseas during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Tom was an avid sports fan, especially football (Jacksonville Jaguars) and baseball (Colorado Rockies). He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing poker recreationally and at the professional level, attending and watching sporting events and playing backyard sports. Tom had a love for animals and enjoyed spending time with his dog, Bruiser. Tom had aspired to attend college to obtain a degree in criminal justice that would complement his military experience and past and current security guard position(s). Beginning a new career in the criminal justice field was Tom's main objective before his sudden death.
Calling hours will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd., Vernon. Tom's funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2013 beginning at the funeral home at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial, to be celebrated at 11 a.m., at St. Luke's Parish, Ellington. Burial with military honors will follow in Buckland Cemetery, Manchester.
