RYAN, Thomas P. "Peter"

Thomas P. "Peter" Ryan, 89, passed away on December 25, 2012 at his home in Dallas, GA. He was born in Boston, MA on Aug. 4, 1923 to Ralph and Ellen (Dolan) Ryan. He moved to Hartford very early in his life. He was a resident of East Hartford for over 51 years along with his wife Alice C. Ryan who passed away in Nov. 2005. Thomas was a veteran of the U.S. Army, seeing action in Italy, Southern France, and Germany with the Third Infantry Division during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart in Nov. 1943 for injuries suffered in combat in the battle for Italy. He served as a Letter Carrier with the United State Postal Service for over 30 years in the Greater Hartford area. He was a life- long member of St. Christopher Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Rev. John Fleming Council # 2533, Glastonbury. Tom was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion organizations. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Kathleen of Georgia; his daughter, Theresa of Rhode Island; three grandsons, Shawn Ryan and his wife Erin of Las Vegas, NV, Gregory Ryan and his wife Heather of Georgia and Justin Ryan of New Bedford, MA and one great-grandson, Carson Ryan of Las Vegas, NV. He also leaves a number of nephews and nieces from both the Ryan and Chabot families. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Fredrick and Joseph all of the Greater Hartford area.
The funeral will be Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, 11 a.m. at The Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Tpke. Wethersfield. Burial with full military honors will be in the State Veteran Cemetery, Middletown. Friends may call Thursday, Jan. 3, 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
