PESCO, Victor B. Jr.


Victor B. Pesco, Jr., 78, of Cromwell and formerly Old Wethersfield, beloved husband of Michelle (Whitney) Pesco and the late Jacqueline (Evans) Pesco, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday (July 24, 2013). Born on August 18, 1934 in Hartford, he was the only son of the late Victor B. Pesco, Sr. and Teresa (Calitro) Pesco. Vic was a graduate of Bulkeley High School in Hartford, attended St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, received his B.A. from the University of Hartford and his Masters Degree from UCONN. Vic was an avid baseball player and fan. While attending the University of Hartford, Vic was scouted by the Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox and the New York Giants. While attending the University of Hartford in 1953, he joined the United States Marine Corps Reserve, taking basic training under the Platoon Leader Corps at Parris Island, SC during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge from the Marines, Vic joined the U.S. Army Infantry 82nd Airborne Division in 1954. He did his basic training at Camp Gordon, GA and Ft. Sam, Houston, TX. He continued his service until 1957 in Europe, serving in Germany, Austria and Italy under the Southern European Task Force (SETAF). In 1956 he was awarded the "Soldier of the Year" accommodation while stationed at Camp Darby Ranger base in Livorno, Italy. Following his honorable discharge from the Army in 1957, he continued serving his country as an agent for the federal government, retiring in 1995. Vic traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe. His favorite spot was the village of Gennadi on the island of Rhodes in Greece. One of his most memorable trips was a year long drive across the United States with his beloved dog, Bear. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid athlete and car collector, both foreign and domestic. He also loved jogging and playing tennis and competed for many years. In addition to his loving wife Michelle, Vic is survived by his children, Lisa Pesco-Swanson and her husband Donald of Lexington, KY, Jonathan M. Pesco and Lauren Grousd of Portland, ME and Christopher E. Pesco and his wife Joanne of Hebron; two adored grandchildren, Evan James Pesco and Kyle Joseph Pesco; his extended family, Erica Bell and her husband Michael of West Windsor, NJ, William Schedler and his wife Lindsey and Thomas Schedler and his wife Sylvia, all of Springfield, NJ; cherished grandchildren, Michael, Juliana, Nicholas, Miles, Emmy and Max. Vic is also survived by his two cousins, who he considered brothers, Richard Calitro and Joe Corege. Vic's family would like to thank the staff at the Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center and CB2 for their care and compassion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday (July 30) at 10 a.m. in St. John Church, 5 St. John Court, Cromwell. Everyone is asked to go directly to the church. Burial with military honors will follow in Village Cemetery, Old Wethersfield. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
