ANDERSON, Warren G.
Warren Gene "Andy" Anderson, a resident of Chestnut Point Care Center of East Windsor, CT, died Tuesday (October 18, 2011) at Hartford Hospital, of complications from congestive heart failure. A loving husband, dedicated father and proud grandfather, he was 92 and was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 48 years, Jean Winter Anderson, in July, 1997. He was born in Sacramento, CA, on November 6, 1918, the second child of the late Porter Claus Anderson and Elma Kelley Anderson. He attended his beloved University of California for two years, before transferring to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was graduated with a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering in December, 1941. After graduation, Andy began his career as an engineer with Pan American World Airways, in Miami. It was at Pan where he met his future wife, Jean Shirley Winter, who was then employed there scheduling pilots. They were married on March 13, 1949. In 1951, he was hired by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford, where he was a marketing executive until his retirement in 1980. He lived in West Hartford for nearly 55 years. He is survived by his three sons, Kelley E. Anderson and wife, Ann Caulkins, of Charlotte, NC, Duff P. Anderson and wife, Patricia Walsh Anderson, of Summit, NJ, Brian J. Anderson and wife, Monica P. Anderson, of Orange Park, FL; his daughter, Hope P. Anderson, of Windsor; his seven grandchildren, Porter D. Anderson and Miller E. Anderson, of Charlotte, NC, Stewart J. Anderson, Lindsay P. Anderson and Duncan F. Anderson, of Summit, NJ, Katie-Marie J. Anderson and Kacie A. Anderson, of Orange Park, FL.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 21, at West Hartford's First Church of Christ Congregational, where he was a member and attended services for more than 50 years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Windsor Independent Living Association, P.O. Box 908, Windsor, CT, 06095. Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, West Hartford, has care of arrangements.
