Willard Livermore "Bill" GORTON III

Obituary Condolences

GORTON, Willard "Bill" Livermore, III
Willard "Bill" Livermore Gorton III, 68, of Simsbury, passed away on Thursday, (March 28, 2013). He was born on September 8, 1944 to Agnes and Willard Gorton in East Hartford, CT. He is survived by a brother Tom in Falmouth, MA and his niece and nephew. Bill was an accomplished public relations professional who started his career in Hartford with the advertising firm Lowengard and Brotherhood, and then moved to R.E. Heinemann & Company where he also was a lobbyist. He then joined with Barbara Bodner to start the PR firm Bodner and Gorton and subsequently spun off on his own for several successful years as Gorton & Associates before his retirement. Bill loved to travel and spent many vacations throughout Europe. A restaurant connoisseur, he was considered a "foodie" by many who knew him, particularly those in the business. A lifelong bachelor, Bill hosted exchange students for a few years and would then visit the student's families in their native country, making enduring friendships. He was a dedicated Red Sox fan who had season tickets for 37 years and saw over 400 games at Fenway Park in his lifetime. He followed Formula One racing and would make the annual trip to the Montreal Grand Prix for many years. He also enjoyed the theatre, music, fine wine, sports cars and he was an avid reader. Bill had an infectious personality and was beloved by a tremendous number of people of all ages, touching the lives and souls of so many of us. He will be truly missed.
No funeral services are planned at his request. He will be cremated with his ashes laid to rest in Cape Cod where he spent many enjoyable summers with family and friends. Cheers, Bill. May you rest in peace. For online guestbook condolences, please visit www.abbeycremation.com.
