William Fish Obituary

FISH, William Edwin William Edwin Fish, 90, of Bolton, beloved husband of Dorothy (Turkington) Fish for 67 years, passed from this life peacefully on Thursday (July 16, 2009). He was surrounded by his loving family at St. Francis Hospital, where the caring staff made his passing so much easier for the family to bear. William was born on April 1, 1919 in Denver, CO, son of the late Albert E., and Celia Mary (Moore) Fish. He came to Bolton at the age of three months with his two brothers and three sisters, his younger brother Arthur joined the family seven years later. It is there where he grew up and resided until called into the service of his country. For the duration of World War II, he served on Governor's Island, New York, in the Headquarters of the First Army. He then returned to Bolton and moved into a home on his father's farm, built by his uncle, Lewis, where he and his wife would raise six sons, and where he has lived ever since. He was employed by the General Baking Company until they closed, followed by a time at both Moriarty Brothers, and Pratt & Whitney. He then joined his son, Donald as Vice President of D.W. Fish Realty, where he worked as a broker and bookkeeper for 31 years. Ever a man of faith, William was a great support to the Manchester Church of the Nazarene where he served on the board, in the choir, and was the teacher of many young people, some who are now in their 70's. He also ministered while a student at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy MA, where he traveled in a quartet. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy, and their six sons and daughters-in-law: Dr. Richard and Loretta Fish of Hingham, MA, Donald and Sharon Fish of Bolton, Gordon and Lynn Fish of Ellington, Rev. Douglas and Barbara Fish of Southbridge, MA, Dr. Randall and Susan Fish of Dillsburg PA, and Russell and Cutie Fish of Bolton. He is also survived by two grandsons, 14 granddaughters, and 13 great grandchildren, and by his beloved sister, Ruth Williams of Bolton. Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 22 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Manchester Church of the Nazarene 236 Main St Manchester CT, followed by the funeral service at 12 Noon. Burial will be in East Cemetery, Manchester. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Cornerstone Christian School or local missionary efforts located at the Manchester Church of the Nazarene. Holmes Funeral Home, Manchester has care of the arrangements. To sign the online guestbook please visit www.holmes-watkinsfuneralhomes.com

Doug, Barb and Family,
Our deepest sympathy is with you. Your father was a wonderful man. We knew him well through your stories from the pulpit. We know there is an emptiness in your hearts now along with a great happiness to know he is with God. So many times during communion, sometimes through a veil of happy tears, you told us how wonderful a sight it would be to look down the table and sitting next to Jesus would be all our loved ones. It is comforting to know that your Dad is now enjoying that wonderful gift that Jesus gave us.
All our love,
The Hettstrom Family

Time is
Too slow for those who Wait,
Too swift for those who Fear,
Too long for those who Grieve,
Too short for those who Rejoice;
But for those who Love,
Time is
Eternity.
What a wonderful family!
