PROFT, William Mott Jr.
William Mott Proft, Jr., 88, of Elim Park Place in Cheshire, CT, died peacefully on December 12, 2012, with his loving wife Barbara by his side. Bill was born in Orange, New Jersey on March 24, 1924, the son of William M. and Virginia E. (Palcanis) Proft. In addition to Barbara, his wife of 56 years, he is also survived by four sons, Mark Proft and his wife Virginia of West Hartford, CT, Peter Proft and his wife Lin of Singapore, Matt Proft and his wife Scout of East Dorset, VT, Stephen Proft and his wife Joan of Mesa, AZ, a niece Laura Loney of Tonasket, WA, and 12 grandchildren; Silas, Ashley, Uriell, Eben, Bailey, Shelby, Noriana, Luen, Conor, Adam, April, and Anders. Bill joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943 and was a navigator-radar bombardier in B-29s, serving in the 315th Bomb Wing, 20th Air Force, based on Guam. Following the war he attended Rutgers University and graduated with a B.S. in business in 1950. Bill married Barbara Woodbury of Milford, CT in 1956, settling in Florham Park, NJ in 1959. He worked as an Industrial Engineer and Manager of Administrative Services for Warner-Lambert, retiring in 1986. Bill and Barbara retired to Green Valley, AZ in 1995, returning east in 2011 to be closer to family.
There will be a private celebration of Bill's life for family and friends in the New Year. Bill's family would like to express their profound gratitude for the care and compassion shown by the nurses at Elim Park Place Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, and the hospice caregivers from Vitas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolent Fund of Elim Park Place, Cheshire, CT; St. Andrew's Children's Center, Nogales, AZ, or Children's Research Center, University Medical Center, Tucson, AZ.
