Yvonne Miceli

1924 - 2015

Yvonne Miceli, 91, widow of John Miceli, died Nov. 26, 2015, at Avon Health Center. Born in Alsace-Lorraine, France, on Feb. 4, 1924, she was the daughter of Nicholas and Marguerite Remy. She met her husband John, an American soldier stationed in France, during WWII. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1947. She joined John in Winsted, CT, where they married and raised their family. In later years, she and John moved to Canton, and in 2012 Yvonne became a resident of Atria Hamilton Heights in West Hartford. For many years, she and John owned and operated Miceli's Market in Winsted. Later she worked in manufacturing and school food service, where she was recognized and commended for her strong work ethic. Yvonne was a very talented knitter and throughout the years made cherished gifts for her family members and friends. She was active in a local knitting circle and donated many hand-knit items to charities. Yvonne leaves to cherish her memory her four children: Lori Egan-Scollan and her husband Paul of Meriden, Joan Schlegel and her husband Larry of Unionville, Michael Miceli and his wife Kathy of Williston, VT, and Yvonne Miceli and her partner Allan Schiffer of West Hartford; 8 grandchildren: Joshua, Nicholas, and Brandon Egan, Dr. Sarah Schlegel, Bethany Shaw, Arianna Schlegel, Erin Adams, and Daniel Ridgeway; and 7 great-grandchildren. Yvonne donated her body for medical research. Donations in her memory may be made to the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Funeral services will be private.
