Obituary Condolences

Zbigniew (Zbig) M. Grabowski, aerospace engineer, passed away peacefully on the night of Wednesday, (January 30, 2013). Born in Warsaw, Poland to Zbigniew Jan Grabowski and Bozenna Okolowicz Grabowska on Oct. 9, 1960, he immigrated to the United States in 1986 to become a naturalized citizen in 2001. Having previously earned a Masters degree in civil engineering at Warsaw Polytechnic, he continued his education at the University of Connecticut, earning a Masters degree (1989) and a PhD (1995) in mechanical engineering. He was hired by Pratt & Whitney in 1999, over time moving from single component design to strategic research and business development in the US and EU. An accomplished athlete, Zbig rowed crew in college, and loved running, biking, hiking and skiing with his children. Parallel to his love for the outdoors and his enthusiasm for his job was his interest in history, politics, psychology, and music. In Poland Zbigniew is survived by his father, his sister Kasia Grabowska, and her daughter Natalia Pogodzinska. He is survived by his son Zbigniew (Polik) J. Grabowski and partner Sara Swetzoff, their daughter Oona Grabowska, and Polik's mother Joanna Borucinska. He is also survived by his sons Benjamin, Samuel, their mother Kate Grabowski Clark and his stepsons Daniel and David. He also survived by his girlfriend Jill Garrett.
A service will be held at Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Unionville, on Monday, with visiting hours from 4-7 p.m. followed by a prayer service with select remarks from family and friends. He will be laid to rest with his mother Bozenna in Poland.
