Kenneth Walter Swanson, 79, of West Hartford, husband of Ann Louise (Mortenson) Swanson, passed away Monday, January 27, 2014 at Hartford Hospital. He was born April 14, 1934 in Hartford, the son of the late Bror Walter and Lillian Victoria (Thoren) Swanson. Ken was a 1956 graduate of Trinity College where he was a Soccer All American and member of the ROTC. After college he served with the United States Air Force as a 1st Lieutenant Navigator. He co-founded Swanson Tool Manufacturing in West Hartford with his father over 50 years ago. Ken was active as a leader with many church, business and community organizations. He leaves Ann Louise, his beloved wife of 57 years and his three children: Joe and Lisa Delano of Marlborough, MA; Ken Jr. and Patty Swanson of West Hartford, CT; and Jim and Linnea Fields of Lakewood, CA. He was extremely proud of his eight grandchildren Maria, Victoria and Christina Delano; Shane and Molly Swanson; Eric, Matthew and Birgitta Fields. He is also survived by his brothers Robert Swanson and David Swanson, his sister, Donna (Swanson) Evans, and his sister-in-law, Doris (Mortenson) Sisley. He was predeceased by his sister, Norma (Swanson) Hunt. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the Hartford Hospital medical staff for their dedicated care, sensitivity and assistance. Calling hours will be Friday, January 31, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main Street, West Hartford. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 311 Capitol Avenue, Hartford. Burial at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford will be private and precede the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a .
