Dorothy A. Pacyna Obituary

Dorothy A. Pacyna, 73, of New Britain, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 31, 2014 in West Hartford. Dorothy will be remembered for her extraordinary warmth, caring nature, good humor and intelligence. She graduated from the St. Francis School of Nursing, Hartford, CT, earning her R.N. in 1961. Dorothy went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the Connell School of Nursing at Boston College in 1964 and then furthered her education by earning her Master of Science degree in Nursing from the University of California, San Francisco in 1969. Her characteristic of sacrificing her time and energy for others was quite authentic. After graduating, Dorothy began and enjoyed a long and very successful career in the field of nursing and public health with positions located in Roanoke, VA; New Orleans, LA, and in various locations in CT. Prior to her retirement, Dorothy was employed by the State of CT working for the Department of Public Health as the Supervising Nurse Consultant of the Child, Adolescent and School Health Unit. Dorothy took pleasure in the simple joys of life. She enjoyed spiritual wellness, exercise, travel, listening to music and was an avid fan of the UConn Husky basketball teams. Dorothy was the daughter of Rose Pacyna of New Britain and the late Edward A. Pacyna, Sr. Besides her mother, Dorothy is survived by her brothers, Thomas Pacyna, Sr. and his wife Mary Ann of Venice, FL; and Edward A. Pacyna, Jr. of Marblehead, MA; her nephew, Thomas Pacyna, Jr. of Farmington; her three nieces, Kathleen Pacyna of Mountain View, CA; Kirsten Pacyna of Rockport, MA; and Sarah Pacyna of Venice, FL; her grandniece, Elena Pacyna Picart, of Venice, FL who always made her smile; two aunts, Ruth Smichenko of Sarasota, FL and Florence Moorcroft of New Britain; and many cousins. Memorial services for Dorothy will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. Committal services with Inurnment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain. There are no calling hours.
