Richard L. "Dick" Mullaney, Jr., 87, of Bristol, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2014. Born September 20, 1926 in South Bend, Indiana, he was the son of the late Richard L., Sr. and Eleanor (Niven) Mullaney. Dick received his Bachelor's Degree from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. At school, he met and then later married the love of his life Helene (Lavoie) Mullaney. They shared their life together until her passing in 2004. After her passing, he established a nursing scholarship at Saint Anselm College in her memory. His research skills lead him to a successful career including numerous years with The Stanley Works as a research chemist. During his working career, he developed 2 U.S. and 1 Canadian patent. Outside of the office, he was a member of the Genealogy Club and was an active member at St. Matthew Church, Forestville where he served as a lector for decades. He also was a part of the founding members in establishing St. Matthew School and St. Paul High School. He was a sweet Irish gentleman that will be dearly missed by his family, friends and everyone blessed to know him. He leaves his 9 children Richard L. Mullaney, III and his wife Gloria of Bristol, Helene "Lennie" Mullaney and her husband Donald Brabant of Portsmith, NH, Kathleen Williams of Southington, Michael Mullaney of Southington, Martha Pellegrino and her husband Frank of Terryville, Elizabeth Mullaney of Albuquerque, NM, James Mullaney and his wife Robin of Seymour, Eugene Mullaney of Chittenden, VT, and Mary Jones and her husband Donald of Ridgefield; his 30 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; sisters Jacqueline Glynn of Farmington and Eleanor Lamkins of Westerly, RI; along with dozens of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sons Timothy and Sean Mullaney; sons-in-law Charles Williams and Ken Cichon; and sisters Patricia Neelan and Carol Archer. The family wishes to also extend a special thanks to the staff of Avon Health Care for their compassionate care. The celebration of Dick's life will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2014 beginning at 9:00 a.m. from O'Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Forestville/Bristol and will proceed to St. Matthew Church, 120 Church Ave., Forestville for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. A committal service will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. Calling hours will be held on Friday between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made in Dick's name to the .
