Cecilia Kurnik Obituary

Cecilia Kurnik, of New Britain, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at her home. She was born in New Britain, daughter of the late Joseph and Julianna Kurnik. Ceil was a member of Sacred Heart Church, New Britain and a lifelong city resident. She had a strong work ethic employed as an insurance biller for both Emhart Corp. as well as New Britain General Hospital for a total of 50 years. Ceil was a self-taught seamstress and a champion bowler in a league with her co-workers. A proud moment of Cecilia's life was when she was selected by the head of the music department of New Britain High School, Doc Morliani, to be the band leader of the Twirlettes. She was also a majorette for the St. Lucian's Drum Corp. She is survived by her loving sister, Emilia (Milly) Kurnik with whom she made her home; she also leaves several nieces and nephews. Ceil was predeceased by her seven sisters and two brothers. Her funeral service will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 19th at 9:30 a.m. from the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt Street, New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, New Britain. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Burritt Hill. She will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
