Shirley G. Bristol Obituary


Shirely Gertrude Houston Bristol, 91, passed away February 14, 2014, Shirley was born September 5, 1922 in Meriden, CT. Growing up in West Hartford, Shirley graduated from Hall High School in 1940. After graduation from Hall, she attended the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing. She then joined the Navy Waves in 1943 as a Pharmacist Mate and was stationed at the Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA until WWII ended. In 1983, Shirley and her husband relocated to New Port Richey, FL after 5 winters of being snowbirds. In 2000, they moved back to CT where they were residents at the Wright Residence, part of Masonicare in Wallingford until their deaths. Shirley was a long time member of the Navy Waves and the American Legion. While living at Masonicare, Shirely was a dedicated volunteer. Her seven children survive her; Joyce Wolf of Manchester, CT; Patricia Jones of Hebron, CT; Roger Bristol and his wife Susan of Andover, CT; Lynne LaSpina and her long-time partner Ronald Boisseau of Lincoln, MA; Jack W. O'Connor, Jr of Austin, TX; Wayne Bristol and his wife Rita of Colchester, CT; and Charles Bristol and his wife Suzanne of New Hartford, CT. Also her sister, Janet DeNio and 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-granddaughter. She was pre-deceased by her husbands, Jack W. O'Connor and Francis Bristol, 1 grandson, Michael Bristol and her brothers Fred and Robert Houston. A celebration of her life will be held at a date in the future. A note of sincere thanks to the staff of the Leslie G. Wright Residence, the staff of the Ramage 2 Unit, the staff of the Acute Care Unit and the Hospice team at Masonicare for their loving and compassionate care of Shirley.
