Roberta Mae Rudin Obituary

Roberta Mae (DuBrow) Rudin, beloved daughter of the late Faye and Artie DuBrow, passed away in the loving arms of her husband on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 following a valiant battle with cancer. Roberta was born and raised in Hartford, attending Weaver High School and then Southern CT Teacher's College, where she received a degree in teaching before returning to Hartford to teach at the Rawson School. After marrying Harold Rudin in June 1961, the couple moved to Bloomfield and then West Hartford to raise their family. In 1988, Roberta and Harold built their dream home in Becket, Massachusetts, where they quickly became beloved members of the Jacob's Pillow Dance family, taking young dancers and faculty from around the world under their wing. Roberta was a member of the Board of Directors of Teferes Israel Synagogue, where she also served as the Director of Education and valued volunteer. She was the first woman at Teferes Israel to receive the honor of "Man of the Year," an accolade renamed "Woman of Valor" in her honor. When Teferes Israel merged with Beth David Synagogue, Roberta joined the Board of Directors at Beth David and continued volunteering, working BINGO and in the kitchen. Most recently, she was a valued member of Congregation Ahavath Sholom in Great Barrington, MA. A beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt and friend, Roberta leaves behind so many who will miss her, including her husband of 52 years, Harold, children Danylle and Doug Coleman, Jennifer Rudin and Michael Sack, and Robert Rudin; her grandchildren Elana, Mariel and Gabrielle Sable, and Matthew and Samantha Coleman, brother and sister-in-law Michael and Deborah DuBrow, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Cynthia and Ronald Naiman, and brother-in-law Laurence Rudin and Sandra Rudin, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and friends too numerous to count. A funeral service will be officiated by Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett at 1:30 PM on Thursday, February 20, in the chapel of the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave Windsor followed by interment in Teferes Israel Cemetery, East Granby. Immediately following the internment, the family will receive visitors at Beth Hillel Synagogue, 160 Wintonbury Ave., Bloomfield, which will be held until 5 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Congregation Ahavath Sholom, P.O. Box 464, Great Barrington, MA, 01230 or Jacob's Pillow Dance, 358 George Carter Road, Becket, MA, 01223. For online condolences please visit
