Marie Fuller Obituary

Marie (Nabel) Fuller 80, of Wethersfield, beloved wife of Richard A. Fuller to whom she was married for 57 years, died Tuesday (February 25, 2014) at Hughes Rehabilitation Center in West Hartford. Born in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Amelia (Olsen) Nabel and lived in Wethersfield for her entire life. She was a graduate of Willimantic State Teachers College (now Eastern Connecticut State University) and following college spent several months living in Sweden and Norway as the state-wide winner of the "Experiment in International Living." Marie was a second grade teacher in the Wethersfield school system for one year before joining her husband in Germany where she taught kindergarten in the U.S. Army school and traveled extensively in Europe. On her return home, she focused on raising her children. She was a great baker of cookies and no child left the house without receiving a cookie from the "cookie lady." Marie always had a smile for everyone and loved teaching young children. She received tremendous joy from planning activities for her six grandchildren. After raising her children, she served as a teacher in the nursery school at the First Congregational Church in Wethersfield. She was a member of First Church for over sixty years and was a longtime member of the church choir. In her retirement, she enjoyed travelling with her husband, including trips to Portugal for several winters and to Elderhostel throughout the United States and New Zealand. They also spent many summers on Southport Island in Maine. Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, Bradford A. Fuller and his wife Sharon of Cheshire; her daughter, Elizabeth A. Davis and her husband Jonathan of Gales Ferry; and her son, Christopher R. Fuller and his wife Lizbet of Nantucket, MA and six grandchildren: Austin Fuller, Eric Fuller, Jocelyn Fuller, Bronte Davis, Shelby Davis and Eli Fuller. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Carl Lawrence Nabel. A memorial service will take place on Saturday (March 1) at 11 a.m. at First Church of Christ, 250 Main Street, Wethersfield, with the Rev. T. Michael McDowell officiating. Burial will be private in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Parkinson's Working Group, 52 Princeton Drive, Middletown, CT 06457. The D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, Wethersfield is entrusted with the arrangements.
