Robert E. Dallon

1922 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Robert E. Dallon Obituary

Robert E. Dallon, 91, of Bristol, beloved husband of Doris (Duncan) Dallon, died on Sunday (February 23, 2014) at John Dempsey Hospital. Robert was born in Salmon River, New Brunswick, Canada on November 29, 1922 and was a one of five children of the late Clifford and Vera (Bradshaw) Dallon. Bob served in the United States Army during World War II serving as a Sergeant in Europe. He moved to Bristol in 1955 coming from Lawrence, MA and was employed at the Arthur G. Russell Co. before retiring in 1987 as a senior vice-president. He was a member of Bristol Baptist Church. Robert (Bob) believed helping others was part of a good life, and he used his skills of carpentry to do just that. Bob was involved in many community organizations always lending a helping hand. He was Chairman of Summer Camp (Camp Wangum) for the Bristol Boys Club for many years and was instrumental in designing and building the renovation and expansion of the camp. Bob received several commendations, including the Oliver Gaudreau Lifetime Service Award, from the Bristol Boys and Girls Club of which he was very proud. He was a 38 year member of the Older Members of the Bristol Boys and Girls Club being named an Honorary Member. Bob was a lifetime member of the Bristol Clock Museum, and a member of the American Legion Seicheprey Post 2 Bristol. He served as an Incorporator of the Bristol Hospital for many years, was on the Board of Directors of United Bank, and served on the Board of Trustees of the Bristol Baptist Church. He enjoyed golfing and was involved with the design and expansion of Chippanee Golf Club's current clubhouse. Bob also contributed carpentry time to the Boy Scouts summer camp, Camp Cochipianee. His love for children was easy to see in the things he did and the smile that was always there when they were around. His family was his treasure, and his "bride" of 68 years was, he would say, "the luckiest break he ever had". To the Staff at Arden Courts in Farmington - Thank You for the love and support you give to your residents and their families, it is greatly appreciated. In addition to his wife of 68 years on February 3, Robert is survived by a two sons: Dale Dallon and his wife, Dolores of Arizona, and Steven Dallon and Nadine Brousseau of Terryville; two daughters, Diane Skelly and her husband, Robert of Farmington, and Linda Dallon Gordon of Bristol; a brother, Arthur Dallon of Lawrence, MA; a sister, Lila Chateauneuf of Florida; seven grandchildren, Cara Lavigne, and husband, Mark, Shane Gordon, Jennifer Skelly, Stephanie Gordon, Brian Skelly and wife, Melissa, Rob Dallon and wife Tina, and Sharon Dallon; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Sundell, a brother, Martin Dallon, a daughter in law, Judith Dallon, and a son in law, Steve L. Gordon III. Funeral services and military honors will be held at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, on Friday, March 7, 2014, at 12 Noon.
