William C. Hacker Obituary

William (Bill) C. Hacker died of cancer Saturday night, 3/1/14, with his wife Sara and family at his side. Bill was born in Johnson City, TN on 6/12/50. He earned an M.A. in History from East Tennessee State University, where he met and married Sara. They moved to Hartford in 1976 for careers in the insurance industry. Bill retired as Director of Learning from Prudential in 2011. Bill welcomed everyone he met and accepted everyone as they were. His view of the world was clear-eyed and no-nonsense, valuing intelligence over ideology. His wit was dry but never mean. He prided himself on self-sufficiency, but was quick to lend a hand, an ear, or a shoulder. He was a devoted son and son-in-law, a cherished brother to his and Sara's many siblings, and every niece, nephew, friend's child, and child's friend's favorite "Uncle Bill." He and Sara lived a 42-year love story. A memorial service will be held Sat. 3/8, 3 pm, at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury. Friends may call beginning at 2 pm. See for details.
