Leon Joseph CALANO Sr. Obituary

CALANO, Leon Joseph Sr., 94, of Granby (formerly of Rocky Hill), loving husband and devoted father, entered into eternal rest Thursday (March 6, 2014) and joined his wife, Anita Calano, in Heaven. He was born January 31, 1920 in Hartford, CT where he attended local public schools and received aviation mechanic training. As an adult, he was a proud member of the United States Army Corp serving in World War II. After the war, he worked at Royal Typewriter Company, became an active member of the United Auto Workers Union, and was a bookkeeper at the Connecticut Natural Gas Company and Institute of Living until he retired in 1985. Two sons, Leon J. Calano, Jr. and his wife Kathi of Plantsville and Douglas F. Calano and his wife Deborah of East Granby survive him. He also leaves four granddaughters Andrea Calano and Diane Calano of Southington, Emily Calano and Sarah Calano of East Granby. He also leaves two great grandchildren Ashley Stephenson and Sam Stephenson. Two brothers, John and Frank Calano and a sister Rosiland Cusanno, predecease him. The Calano family would like to thank the staff at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home of Granby for the wonderful care given to Leon. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 15th at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St. Rocky Hill, CT 06067. Burial with full military honors will follow inside Rose Hill Memorial Park. There will be one call hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. "Good night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest." Dad, you will be forever in our thoughts and our prayers.
