Cray L. Ross Obituary


Cray L. Ross, 81, of Enfield, beloved husband of Alicia Mendez Ross M.D. for 49 years, entered into eternal peace Sunday March 9, 2014 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. The son of the late Harold G. Ross and the late Evelyn Rose (Durant) Ross, Cray was born and raised in Burlington, VT. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He later attended Northrop Aeronautical Institute in CA. He initially worked at St. Regis Paper Co. in sales and as a design engineer. A talented designer, he won awards in company-wide competitions. He was formerly employed for The Travelers for many years before retiring. An active member and communicant of Holy family Church, Cray served as a Church reader and was an Extraordinary Minister of Communion. He was a supporter of the Little Sisters of the Poor and was a past board chairman of the Enfield Montessori School. An outdoorsman at heart, Cray enjoyed kayaking, archery, bow hunting and faithfully attended the annual Eastern Traditional Archery Rendezvous. He was also an inventor and has several registered patents. Cray both designed and contracted the construction of his family home in Enfield. He also enjoyed traveling. Besides his wife Alicia, Cray is survived by a daughter, Alicia-Marie Manty and her husband Jay of Virginia Beach, VA, a son, Dr. Cray L. Ross, Jr. of Galveston, TX; two grandchildren, Dylan Ross Manty and Christian Ross Manty, a sister, Marilyn Reynolds and her husband Edward of Buffalo, NY, a brother, Trappist monkBrother Richard Ross of Spencer, MA; a niece Olivia Mendez-Vollmer and her husband Bill of Holmes, NY. He was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Ross. Family and friends will gather at 9:00 a.m. Saturday March 15, 2014 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield for a procession to Holy Family Church for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Committal, with military honors, will follow at St. Patrick's King St. Cemetery. Calling Hours will be held Friday March 14, from 4-7 p.m. at Leete-Stevens.
