Janina Eugenia Jastrzebski, 92, of West Hartford, died peacefully on March 10, 2014 with her loving family by her side. She was born in Pomorzany, Poland on June 2, 1921 to the late Jan and Karolina (Kinczel) Wierzbowski. Janina emigrated from Poland in 1961 and raised her family in Hartford and West Hartford. Janina's beautiful voice praised God in church choirs. She also sang with the Light Opera Company in Gliwice, Poland and the Polonia-Paderewski Choir in New Britain, CT. She made many friends in the choir and in the Polish Scouting Organization. Janina leaves her children: Mark Jastrzebski of Newington and Teresa Volovski and her husband William of Canton; grandchildren: Sabina Vance and her husband Windham of Southington, Jonathan Szylobryt of Storrs, Daniel Volovski and his wife Marangelys of Waterford. Great-grandchilren: Calvin Brooks Vance and Jonathan David Vance. She also leaves many family members both in the U.S. and Poland. Janina was predeceased by her husband, Tadeusz Jastrzebski and siblings: Hieronim, Maria, Jozef and Reverend Father Antoni Wierzbowski. Janina's family is grateful for the kind care of their mother and family on CB2 at Hartford Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15th at SS. Cyril and Methodius Church, 55 Charter Oak Ave., Hartford. Family and friends are invited to call prior to the Mass from 8:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. Calling hours will be held Friday, March 14th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home. She will be lovingly laid to rest beside her husband in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford immediately following the Mass. Memorial donations in Janina's name may be made to: SS.
