Kathleen M. KELLY Obituary


Kathleen "Kay" McKenna Kelly received her final wish, peacefully passing from this life on Tuesday, (March 11, 2014). Kay was born in Providence, Rhode Island on May 16, 1927. She was one of seven children born to James and Johanna (Cummings) McKenna. She was married to Thomas L. Kelly in June 1949 they moved to East Hartford in 1954 where they raised their three children. She moved to The Lodge in Rocky Hill in January 2013 and quickly made new friends. At The Lodge, she was able to spend special time with her granddaughter Erin, proudly watching her work and sharing many laughs and hugs. Kay leaves behind her three children and their spouses, David Kelly and daughter-in-law Ann of Rocky Hill, Jack Kelly and daughter-in-law Cathy of Olathe, Kansas and daughter Kathie Kelly and son-in-law Victor Xistris of Stamford. Additionally she leaves her three grandchildren, the sunshine of her life, Michael Kelly, Virginia Beach, VA, Ryan Kelly, East Hartford and Erin Kelly, Rocky Hill and her sister Marguerite Deutsch of Bloomington, IL; and two long time friends, Doris Gardner and Julie Mizla of East Hartford. She worked for almost 20 years at Hartford Federal Savings retiring in 1986. Kay was an avid reader and lover of jigsaw puzzles. She enjoyed her many trips with the South End East Hartford Seniors, especially to the casinos. For many years Kay looked forward to Tuesday mornings meeting with her friends and bowling a few good games at the Silver Lanes. She was a dedicated fan of both the men's and women's UCONN Basketball programs and a lifelong New York Yankee fan. A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 noon, Friday, March 14, 2014 at the Saint Elizabeth Seton Church, 280 Brook Street in Rocky Hill. She will be interred alongside her husband at the Hillside Cemetery in East Hartford. Rose Hill Funeral Home in Rocky Hill is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to Rocky Hill VA Recreation Department, Department of Veteran's Affairs, 287 West Street, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
