James P. Moran Jr. Obituary


James P. Moran Jr., 85, of Farmington, beloved husband of Aliodija (Jankauskas) Moran, passed away peacefully Monday, March 17th at his home. Born February 11, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late James P. and Elizabeth L. (Casazza) Moran Sr. He attended Brooklyn Poly Tech before his studies were interrupted by the Korean War where he served in the Chemical Corps. After the war, he returned to Brooklyn Poly Tech to finish his studies on the GI Bill. He continued his education, earning a Ph.D. in Chemistry from UCONN where he met his wife, Aliodija. James worked at Dewey and Almy, WR Grace and Company in MA doing research Chemistry and at Firestone Radiation Research. He spent the bulk of his career at Loctite Corp., where his work resulted in a number of company patents. He was a member of the Unionville VFW and a member of the Masons Sequin Lodge #140 in Newington. In his young years he enjoyed skiing and swimming. He enjoyed many hobbies including listening to jazz, recording, classic movies, building CB radios, electronics, and at the age of 84 completed a longtime goal earning his Ham radio license. He will be dearly missed by his wife, his son James Moran and Joanna of Cape Cod, MA, his son Edward Moran of Farmington, his daughter Maria Smith and her husband Ian of Sandisfield, MA, his beloved granddaughter, Ruby Smith, his brother-in-law Vytas Jankauskas, his sister-in-law Janina Curtis and her husband Jon and their daughter Alta of Killington, VT and several cousins in CT and NY. Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Friday (Mar. 21) from 8:30-9:30am. Funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home will be at 9:30am followed by the Funeral Liturgy in the Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea, Unionville at 10:00am. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Avon. Memorial contributions may be made to the , 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108.
