Mary T. Piergrossi Obituary


Mary T. (Calitri) Piergrossi, a resident of Jefferson House in Newington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 13, 2014. Mary was the loving wife of the late Nicholas J. Piergrossi, Sr. for over 73 years. Born in Panni Province of Foggia, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Giovanni and Graziella (Cacciordi) Calitri. She resided in Hartford for over 40 years before moving to Newington in 1972 and then most recently Rocky Hill in 2012. She was a communicant of the Church of the Holy Spirit, Newington and a member of its Ladies Guild and the Newington Senior Center. Mary enjoyed baking especially cream puffs and breads, along with canning of vegetables. A beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she leaves her loving daughter Theresa Francolini and her husband John of Rocky Hill, her brother Frank Calitri and his wife Jennie of Farmington. Mary will be remembered by her six grandchildren, John Francolini and his wife Yvonne of Long Island, NY, Lisa Felton and her husband Ronald of Newington, Debe Ghirlanda and her husband Romano of Marlborough, Marc Piergrossi of Newington, Justin Piergrossi and his wife Amy of California, Sarina Piergrossi of New Jersey; and nine great grandchildren, Corina Frink, Ella and Natalie Piergrossi, Anthony, Ava, Joey and Ella Francolini, and Alex and Vienna Ghirlanda, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved son Dr. Nicholas Piergrossi, Jr., her brother Boniface Calitri and her sister Antoinette Cacchiotti. The family would like to thank the staff at the Jefferson House for their loving care shown to Mary and for their words of comfort shown to the family. Her funeral service will begin on Monday, March 24th, at 9:00 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Newington. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, March 23rd, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Newington Memorial.
