Joseph C. Luszczak Obituary

Joseph C. "Woody" Luszczak, 97, of Wethersfield, beloved husband for 66 years of Helen (Olander) Luszczak, passed away peacefully on Saturday, (March 22, 2014) at Hartford Hospital. Joey was born in Hartford on December 16, 1916, son of the late Martin and Angela (Hajdasz) Luszczak, he was raised in Hartford, was a graduate of SS. Cyril & Methodius School and Bulkeley High School, Class of 1935, and had lived in Wethersfield since 1978. In 1947, he married his sweetheart Helen Olander, and thoroughly enjoyed celebrating life for 66 years together with their three children, Ann, Rita, Tom and his wife Kathy, and his two grandsons, Christopher and Michael whom he cherished immensely. Joseph served proudly during World War II in the U.S. Army, B Company, 13th Infantry Regiment, and 8th Infantry Division. He was presented with 11 medals, including the Bronze Star Medal for his service to our country. He worked for the Travelers Insurance Company for 45 years when he retired in 1990. Besides his passion for reading every book on World War II that he could put his hands on, Joe was devoted to being the strength of his family - every day started and ended with a smile and an unwavering assurance that everything was going to be okay as long as the family "stuck together". Joe loved the comfort of home watching the UCONN Men's and Women's games with his family - and rooting for the "greatest baseball team ever" - the New York Yankees. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Tuesday, March 25, 9 a.m., at SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, 55 Charter Oak Ave., Hartford. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. There are no calling hours. The family has requested that donations be made to SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, 55 Charter Oak Ave., Hartford, CT 06106.
