Bertha Letkiewicz Obituary


Bertha (Sito) Letkiewicz of West Hartford, died peacefully on March 24, 2014. She was born January 30, 1921 in Shenandoah, PA, the daughter of the late Frank and Catherine Sito. After graduating from high school, she moved to Hartford. She married her husband, Al, in 1942, and they were married for 59 years until his death. Mrs. Letkiewicz was employed by Travelers Insurance Company for many years, retiring in 1983 as a supervisor. Upon retirement, she and her husband embarked on a two month cross country road trip, seeing many friends and relatives along the way. Mrs. Letkiewicz and her husband enjoyed many years of retirement living in West Hartford. She was an excellent cook, and enjoyed gardening and knitting. She enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and especially loved attending concerts, Broadway shows, and the opera. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends. She was a member of the West Hartford Belles, the Travelers Women's Club, and a long time member of the Church of St. Mark the Evangelist. She was predeceased by her husband, Adolph P. "Al" Letkiewicz. She leaves her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Robert Broderick of Chesterfield, MO; her son, Ronald of Newington; three grand children, Dr. Suzanne L'Ecuyer and her husband Brian Purlee of Wildwood, MO, William L'Ecuyer and his wife Janine of Weldon Spring, MO, Michael L'Ecuyer and his wife Sarah of Eureka, MO; and five great-granddaughters, Abigail, Madeline, Sophia, Haley and Meredith. She also leaves two sisters, Helen Michalik of Andover, MA, and Dolores Piascik of Scotia, NY; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Ann Letcavage, Florence Bogucki, and Leona Sito; and her brother John Sito. The family would like to thank all of the people who assisted in Mrs. Letkiewicz's care, especially Liliana and Anna. Funeral services will be Friday, March 28, 2014 at 9:15 from the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main Street, West Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Saint Mark the Evangelist, 467 South Quaker Lane, West Hartford. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Calling hours will be Thursday, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
