Florence (Bassler) Rivenburg Obituary

Florence (Bassler) Rivenburg, 92, of Vernon, beloved wife of the late Edward W. Rivenburg, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Fox Hill Center with her family at her side. Born in East Hartford, the daughter of the late Charles and Ruth (Wyllie) Bassler, she grew up in Manchester and lived most of her life in Ellington. She moved to South Paris, Maine where she lived for eight years, moving to Vernon four years ago. Prior to her retirement, Florence worked for the Ellington school system in the cafeteria for many years. She loved quilting, crocheting, needlework, gardening, camping and traveling. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vernon. Florence enjoyed playing bingo at Fox Hill. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James and Jeanne Rivenburg of Groton; two grandchildren, Sheila Rivenburg of Waterbury, and Jeffrey Rivenburg of Meriden; a sister, Barbara Wakefield of Bridgestone, ME; many nieces and nephews; her best friend, Betty Gottier of Ellington, and her two lifelong friends, Anne Hupper of Stafford Springs and Kathy Rinehart of Ellington. She was also predeceased by her brother, Charles Bassler, and two sisters, Ruth Brunell and Anna Lavallee. Memorial services will be held at a later time and date to be announced.
