Dolly Rudder Obituary

Doris "Dolly" (Way) Rudder, of Canton, passed into transition with dignity and grace on March 26, 2014, at home surrounded by her family. Born in East Haddam, November 28, 1926, daughter of the late Oscar and Madeline (Gleason) Way, she lived in Hartford until 1948. She modeled for the former G.Fox & Company and in ads for SNETCO where she was also a switchboard/telephone operator. Moving to Farmington and then Canton, where she lived for 66 years, she raised her four daughters, Donna Lyn, Darcy Joy, Dale Robin, and Dawn Ivy, here. An independent, alluring, and outgoing woman, Dolly and Donald built the Cob-Web Shop in 1964; her Flea Market in Canton was her passion. She also organized the first two Brownie troops in the Canton area and was active in the Girl Scouts for many years. She attended the First Congregational Church of Canton Center then became a dedicated member of the Rosicrucian Order. AMORC, she believed was that life was about learning lessons and that love could conquer all. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society, Phoebe Humphrey Chapter DAR, and the Order of Eastern Star. She purchased a camper she called "Dolly's Folly" and traveled all over the US. A past member of the Ladies Aid Group at First Congregational Church of Canton Center, Canton Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Life member of Canton Historical Museum, NCHA, and Yankee and Mid Florida L.O.W's. (Loner's on Wheels) Besides her parents she was predeceased by her former husband Donald Rudder and leaves her four daughters Donna L. Rudder of New Britain, Dale R. Hadeka and her husband William of Castleton, VT, Darcy R. Griswold of Raleigh, NC, and Dawn Rudder Zeffiro with whom she made her home in Canton; eight grandchildren Andrew, Kristin, Kate and Will Hadeka; Emily and Harris Griswold; and Donnie and Renee Zeffiro; and two great grandchildren Andie and Annabell Hadeka; and two nephews and two nieces Thomas and Robert Rudder and Penny Woodford and Sharon Edgerly. She was also predeceased by her sister Mildred Leyden. Her family will receive friends Wednesday, April 2, 2014 from 5-7 PM at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon. A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 11 AM at Carmon's followed by burial in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. The Rev. James Wheeler will officiate.
