Margaret C. (Johnson) Phillips, 88, of South Windsor, beloved wife of the late Richard Phillips, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 09, 2014, at Rockville General Hospital. She was born on March 3, 1926, in New Britain, daughter of the late Frank and Tyra (Hedvall) Johnson. Margaret was a graduate of New Britain High School. She was married to the love of her life, Richard Phillips, on April 26, 1947 and together they settled in South Windsor. She was retired from The Traveler's in 1989 after many years of service. A kind, caring, loving and devoted mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, she will be greatly missed. Mags spent many years as an aide in the South Windsor grammar schools, taught Sunday school, volunteered to deliver meals on wheels with Dick, and spent time with Red Hatters and other friends at the South Windsor Senior Center. She loved to travel and the Mohegan Sun will miss her presence at the slots! She leaves her children, Lynn Smith and her husband Bob of Troy, NH, Marc Phillips and his wife Tina of Lancaster, OH, R. Russell Phillips and his wife Paula of Stratford, William Phillips of South Windsor and Christopher Phillips and his wife Stacey of Northampton, MA; her brother, Donald Johnson and his wife Carol of Plainville, her sisters, Doris Fisher and Shirley Pomoranski both of Plainville and Karen Googel of New Britain; her sisters-in-law, Marion Johnson of New Britain, Betty Johnson of Berlin and Margaret Griffin of Southington; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers, Robert, Ronald and Richard Johnson. Her family will receive friends on Saturday, April 12, 2014, from 11 to 12 Noon at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. A memorial service will follow at 12 Noon in the funeral home. Burial will be private at the request of her family.
