William Muldoon Obituary

William Muldoon, 89, always happy on a Truro, Cape Cod beach or with a tool in his hand, died peacefully Tuesday, April 8. Married to Edith Blanchet for 69 years, even in ill health he was determined to care for her the very best he could. Born in Manchester on January 10, 1925, he remained a lifelong resident where he raised his family next door to his brother Robert in the house once owned by his parents who emigrated from Northern Ireland. He was a proud member of Masonic Lodge 73 and involved also in the Shriners and Tall Cedars of Lebanon. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's Episcopal Church. During WWII, he served as a Navy Signalman Second Class and manned several ships, including LCI 492, which on D-Day landed troops on Omaha Beach, Normandy, the retelling of which always filled him with deep emotion. Bill is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife, Edith; daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Jeff Lapworth of Manchester; daughter and partner, Phyllis and Laura Paul of Northampton, MA; daughter Peggy of Prescott, Arizona; granddaughters Carrie Lapworth and fiancé Dave Bullock; Bethany Lapworth and partner Cory Coffin; grandson Nick Soter; and great-grandchildren Kaeden, Rebecca, Nicholas, and Melanie. He is also survived by his sisters Violet Benway and Betty Gagnon as well as by several nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his sister, Harriet, and brothers, John and Robert. A Masonic funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 12 at 2 PM at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester. Bill's family would like to thank the staff at Crestfield Rehabilitation Center-Fenwood Manor and Manchester Memorial Hospital's Hospice-Comfort Unit for their kind and attentive care. Memorial donations may be made in Bill's name to the University of Connecticut School of Medicine Anatomical Donation Program's Wilmont Memorial Fund, 263 Farmington Avenue, Farmington, CT 06030.
