Mary "Betty" (O'Brien) Lareau, 88, of Enfield, CT passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2014, at Blair Manor Nursing Home with her family by her side. Betty was born September 24, 1925, in Chicopee, MA the daughter of the late Joseph and Cecelia (Hickey) O'Brien. Betty was proud of her Irish heritage and was a faithful communicant of St. Bernard Church. She was an avid loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and in her leisure Betty enjoyed gardening, reading novels and bird watching. Some of her fondest times were spent vacationing at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire, going on cruises with her husband and preparing Sunday dinner for the family. Betty is survived by her four children; David A. Lareau of Phoenix, AZ, Kenneth J. Lareau and his wife Susan of South Windsor, CT, Shirleen J. Peabody and her husband Raymond of Enfield, CT and Richard T. Lareau and his wife Gwen of Manchester, NJ; six grandchildren, Christopher and Jessica Lareau, Jason and Alexander Peabody, and Nichole and Justin Lareau. Betty is also survived by her twin sister, Jean Lauer and several nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased her brother, Joseph O'Brien of Chicopee, MA and her husband and best friend of 61 years, André Thomas Lareau on January 18th of 2013. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Monday, April 14, 2014, from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield, CT. A funeral procession will gather on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at 8:30 am at the funeral home for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30 am at St. Bernard Church, 426 Hazard Ave., Enfield, CT. Burial will follow in Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Betty Lareau Memorial Fund, c/o First Niagara Bank, 73 Hazard Ave., Enfield, CT (established to provide a memorial gift for the residents of Blair Manor).
