Dr.  John Robert Graham Obituary


Dr. John Robert Graham, 93, of Wethersfield, a prominent retired dentist who maintained offices at 929 Silas Deane Hwy., Wethersfield, passed away at home on Saturday (April 12, 2014). Born in Hartford on December 11, 1920, he was the son of the late James Thomas Graham and Belle (Zwillinger) Graham. He attended Hartford schools and took his undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama, receiving his dental degree from Temple University School of Dentistry in 1945. Dr. Graham served proudly in WWII as a Captain in the United States Army Dental Corps and was the Assistant Chief of Dental Services at the Veterans' Administration Hospital at Castle Pt., NY. After his discharge, he established offices in Hartford, practicing there for 32 years before moving his offices to Wethersfield, where he practiced for an additional 27 years, retiring in 2006. Dr. Graham was a life member of the American Dental Association, the Connecticut State Dental Association and the Hartford Dental Society. He was a past Exalted Ruler of the Hartford Lodge of Elks #19 and a member of the American Legion Bourne-Keeney Post #23 Wethersfield. A loving father and grandfather, he will be dearly missed by his son, Atty. John R. Graham, Jr. of West Hartford; five daughters, Jo-Anne Graham of Long Beach, CA, Susan Graham-Handley and husband Tad of Farmington, Christine Prendergast and husband David of New Britain, Jacqueline Ann Ouellete and husband Mark of Middletown and Jennifer Lee Graham of Southington; his daughter-in-law, Patricia A. Hamilton of Hartsdale, NY and a very special companion, Therese Morin Poharcyk of Wethersfield. He also leaves 12 adored grandchildren. Dr. Graham was predeceased by his wife, Shirley (Bogacz) Graham, his former wife, Edwina (Cotter) Graham and a granddaughter Alexandra Graham. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday (April 22) at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to go directly to the church. Burial with military honors will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
