Erwin S. Marques Obituary

Erwin S. Marques, 85, of Berkshire Way in Simsbury, beloved husband of Kathleen Marques, died Sunday, April 13, 2014 at his home with his family by his side. He was born March 11, 1929 in the Bronx, NY, son of the late Ormond and Mahala Marques and had lived in Spring Valley, NY, prior to moving to Simsbury 36 years ago. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Army. Erwin was a graduate of the Bronx High School of Science in 1944 and a graduate of The University of Connecticut, Class of 1994, having received his Bachelors Degree in Finance. Mr. Marques was the Vice President of Fred S. James and Co. in Hartford, CT for many years prior to his retirement. He was a member the Simsbury Board of Finance and the Simsbury VFW Metacomet Post #1926. Erwin enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Simsbury Farms Golf Club, serving as the Handicap Chairman. He also enjoyed gardening, politics, football, basketball and tennis. But most of all, Erwin loved to spend time with his family. Besides his loving wife of 49 years, he is survived by his son, Ken Marques and his wife Ann, of East Granby; his daughters, Carol Barrios and her husband Al, of Fairfield, and Lisa Calcavecchia and her husband John, of Farmington and his five grandchildren, Alayna, Katrina and Celia Barrios, and Nicholas and Jack Calcavecchia. He was predeceased by his brother, Ormond Marques and his sister, Wilma McConnell. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury, TODAY, Tuesday April 15th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral will be Wednesday, April 16th, 9:15 AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 AM at St. Bernard's Church in Tariffville.
