Richard A. Dobosz Obituary

Richard Allan Dobosz, 78, passed away with his friends and family by his side on April 10, 2014. He was born on February 13, 1936, in Hartford, Connecticut, to Andrew and Helen (Hyjek) Dobosz. Richard grew up in Rockville, CT, attended St. Joseph's Elementary School and faithfully served as an altar boy at St. Joseph's Church. He graduated from Rockville High School with honors in 1953. Richard started his working career as an assembler for The Royal Typewriter Company in Hartford. Richard later worked as a machine operator at the NuWay Tobacco Company in Rockville and in South Windsor. He worked at the Morland Valve Company as an engine lathe machinist for several years where he proudly produced high precision valve parts for Electric Boat. He retired in 1998 from a small machine shop in East Hartford after working over 40 years as a master machinist. Richard married Sandra Squires in 1962. They were married for 23 years and had two children, Kimberly and Jeffrey Dobosz. Richard was a life-long sightseer and faithfully took his family on day trips and summer vacations across the east coast of the United States and Canada. Richard was proud of his Polish heritage and a longtime member of the former Polish American (PAC) and the T.K.B. (Kosciusko) Clubs in Rockville. He worked at the PAC bingo nights and was an accomplished duckpin bowler who enjoyed competing in the PAC men's league. Richard loved Polish music, dancing, picnics and most of all Polish food. Richard was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He whiled away many days fishing for perch, pickerel, and bass on Shenipsit Lake and enjoyed trout fishing in several local streams. He took several fly-in fishing trips to remote lakes in Quebec, Canada, for walleye and northern pike with his son Jeffrey and his life-long friend William "Hoppy" Hopowiec. Richard was a diehard Boston Red Sox fan and attended many games at Fenway Park with his daughter Kimberly. He was a loyal UCONN Huskies Men's basketball fan and was thrilled to learn of their 2014 National Championship. Richard was a dedicated outdoorsman and walking enthusiast who enjoyed long walks in the woods. His dedication to his lawn and vegetable and flower gardens were evident to all who visited his home. Richard was a wonderful, devoted grandfather who loved his granddaughters dearly and always made time for visits. He would bring special treats and play until he was tuckered out. Richard is survived by his former wife and friend Sandra Squires Richmond of Tolland, his daughter Kimberly Dobosz of Haverhill, Massachusetts; his son Jeffrey Dobosz and daughter-in-law Margaret Dinger of Pomfret Center, Connecticut, his grandchildren Kathryn Dobosz and Alexandra Dobosz, and numerous cousins.
