Olympia Karatasios Obituary


Olympia (Delinikos) Karatasios passed peacefully at Hartford Hospital on Monday, April 14, 2014. She was born in Rodohori, Kozani, Greece in 1932 daughter of the late George and Kalliope (Papadopoulos) Delinikos .She immigrated to the United States in 1963 with her husband Christos and daughter, Malamati. She was predeceased by both her husband and her brother Fotios Vakfatis. Olympia lived in Hartford and then in Wethersfield for the past 37 years. She retired from Pratt & Whitney in 1993. Olympia was a loving Mother, Grandmother (Yiayia), sister, cousin, and friend who always cared more for others than for herself. Her greatest joy was being with her family, especially her granddaughters. She is survived by her daughter Malamati Litts and her husband Robert of Wethersfield; her granddaughters Melissa Litts of Boston and Kristiana Litts of Wethersfield; her brother Athanasios Vakfaris and his wife Theodora of Thessaloniki, Greece; as well as many cousins, nieces and friends. The family would like to thank her closest friends who checked on her daily, Kondilo Karelas and Loula Adamidis. Also, thank you to her caregiver, Monika Stefanski, for her loving care. Lastly, thank you to all who cared for her at Hartford Hospital with so much respect and sensitivity. The funeral will be Tuesday, April 22, 11:30 a.m. in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 433 Fairfield Ave. Hartford, CT 06114 with the Rev. Dr. F. George Zugravu officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Monday April 21st 5-8 p.m. at Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Tpke. Wethersfield. A Trsiayion service will be held Monday 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions in her memory may be made to: Holy Protection Monastery, 1 St. Joseph's Way, White Haven, PA or to St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
