Peter Korduner Obituary

Born near Vinnytsia, Ukraine, in 1912, Peter Korduner died peacefully at home on Thursday, April 17. He was 102. A survivor of the Holocaust, Peter married his wife Sylvia, who survives him after 69 years of marriage, in 1944. He immigrated with his wife and oldest daughter to the United States in 1949, where he opened a barbershop in Hartford, then West Hartford, and where he was affectionately known for 50 years as "Pete the Barber." He enjoyed fishing, gardening, bowling, singing, telling jokes, playing cards, and he had great affection for animals. He was a very loving man, and his happiest moments were spent with his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Yankel and Razel, his brothers, Lazer and Schmullek, and his sisters, Bella and Feiga. He is survived by his wife Sylvia and three children, Anita Fischer of West Hartford, Jack and Sherri Korduner of Norwich, and Lori and James Murray of West Hartford; his nine grandchildren, Jonathan and Rifka Sack of California, Marc Sack of West Hartford, Elizabeth Steinman of Florida, John Michael and Missy Korduner of Louisiana, Sarah Fischer of West Hartford, Daniel and Elizabeth Murray of West Hartford, Rebecca Korduner of Massachusetts, Brandon Murray of West Hartford, and Matthew Korduner of Niantic; and his four great-grandchildren, Noah and Logan Steinman of Florida, and Dovid and Doniel Sack of California. As the patriarch, he helped many members of his family immigrate to the United States from Russia through sponsorship. As a result, he leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews in the United States. He will be deeply missed. His family wishes to thank Hana and Farida for their steadfast care over the past few years. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 20, at 10 a.m. at Weinstein Mortuary in Hartford; burial will be at the United Synagogues of Greater Hartford Cemetery in Wethersfield. Mourners will be received following the funeral and on Wednesday and Thursday from 1 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. at 11 Morton Lane, West Hartford.
