Edward Joseph Stanton, 79, husband of Priscilla (Pat) Shorey Stanton, since 1955 of Haddam (formerly Clinton) passed away on April 17, 2014 at home after a 20+ year battle with cancer with family by his side.Ed was born June 18, 1934 in Middletown, CT, to the late John and Bertha (Kavrik) Stanton residing in Higganum, CT.He attended and graduated Valley Regional High School in Deep River, CT, in 1952 and joined the Marine Corps in 1953. After spending a year in Korea, Ed returned to the States and married Priscilla (Pat) Shorey in 1955. The couple lived in California before Ed left the Marines at the rank of Sergeant. Soon after, the couple moved to Ogdensburg, NY, where Ed served on the Border Patrol before starting his career with the Federal Aviation Administration in Messina, NY. In 1961, the family returned to CT where Ed worked at the Flight Service Station at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, until leading the consolidation of facilities to Sikorsky Airport in Stratford, CT. In 1984, the family moved to Clinton, CT, where Ed lived until recently. Ed began his fight against cancer in 1993 and retired from the government in 1994.Ed was fun-loving man who enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, and spending time with family and friends. He worked hard and played hard, earning a well-deserved reputation as a both a good neighbor and a jokester. We are grateful that he was able to positively touch so many lives.In addition to his wife, Pat he is survived and will be dearly missed by 3 sons: Edward and his wife Kathleen of Higganum, CT; Daniel and his wife Christine of Tempe, Arizona; Timothy and his wife Carrie of Valdez, Alaska. His 4 Grandchildren: Luke Stanton, 18; Patrick Stanton, 17; Riley Stanton, 16; and last, but not least, Garrett Stanton, 10. In addition to his immediate family, Ed was beloved by his Shorey in-laws, nieces and nephews.Ed was predeceased by by his brother John V. Stanton of Higganum. Ed's family would like to express their deep gratitude to the Saybrook at Haddam staff and Middlesex Hospital Hospice and Palliative Care for their wonderful care and to Ed and Pat's Clinton neighbors, Ralph Richter, Frank and Lynn Sauter, and John and Jane Brazelton for their many acts of kindness and support over the past few years.Funeral services will begin Tuesday, April 22 at 9:30 am from the Swan Funeral Home, followed by the Funeral Liturgy at 10 am in St. Mary's church in Clinton. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Cemetery.Visitation hours will be Monday, April 21 from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
