Margaret Ellen (Ogle) Burkhart, 66, of Granby, beloved wife of Kurt Burkhart, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014, surrounded by her family. Born in Hartford, daughter of the late Anthony and Margaret Ogle she was a life- long resident of her home town, Granby. She graduated from Granby Memorial High School in 1965 and had been involved in numerous community activities over the years. She was an avid quilter and belonged to several area quilting groups. She also had a passion for history, art, and music. She was happiest when surrounded by her friends, family, and especially her grandchildren. Besides her husband and best friend Kurt, she leaves her son Allen Burkhart and his wife Kara of West Hartford; three daughters Jennifer Burkhart of Granby, Susan Ellis and her husband Bruce of West Granby, and Katherine Burkhart of Granby; six grandchildren Michael, Margaret, Doris, Kurt, Talia, and Bridget; two sisters Mary Keating and her husband Michael and Patricia Burns all of Granby; three brother-in-laws Kenneth Burkhart and his wife Kathleen, Carl Burkhart, Jr. and Ronald Burkhart and his wife Teresa; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brother-in-law Francis Burns. Her family will receive friends Thursday, April 24, 2014 from 4-7 PM at the Hayes Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook Street, Granby. Family and friends may gather Friday, April 25, 2014, 9 AM at Hayes Huling & Carmon followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 10 AM at St. Therese Church, 120 West Granby Road, Granby.
