Robert P. Midura Obituary

Robert P. Midura, Sr., beloved husband for 51 years of Marianne (Cammarano) Midura, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014. He was born in Hartford son of the late Thaddeus A. Midura and Alice Jaronczyk Midura Gulomb. Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a quiet man, but possessed a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. His love of family was only matched by his love of the Catholic Church. Bob was an active member of St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church where he served on the Parish Council. In 1994, he committed himself to the Secular Franciscans by being professed. This group is called the Fraternity of St. Joseph, and Bob was an active member, meeting monthly with his Franciscan brothers and sisters.. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Augustine Church in Hartford. In 2014, Bob was awarded the St. Joseph Archdiocesan Medal of Appreciation by the Archbishop of Hartford in recognition of his continued service to the church. Bob also served as a member of the Ss. Cyril and Methodius Parish Council, He presided for two terms as president of their Home and School Assoc. where he coordinated Tuesday night Bingo. His grandfather, Ignatius Midura was the co-founder of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Church and the Midura children attended the parish school. As a proud member of the Bulkeley High School Class of 1959, Bob would often point out that his Bulkeley Bulldogs beat the New Britain football team on Thanksgiving Day of his senior year. He went on to work for the Ct Mutual Life Insurance Co in the traffic department for 25 years, and was a State of CT Judicial Marshal, retiring in 2008. He was a member of the Hartford Police Auxiliary, patroling the Parkville neighborhood with his partner, Vinnie LaBella. He was a member of the Republican Town Committee, and a Republican candidate for the State House of Representatives. He was also a member of the Polish National Home in Hartford. Bob was also an animal lover, particularly his dogs. He was a member of the Beagle Club where he entered his beagle Limbo in field trials. He also rescued many of his pets including his lab Shotgun, his collie Shannon, his Irish setters Chelsea and his beloved Champion Rae Marie. Bob could be seen walking his four-legged friends daily at Goodwin Park near his home or in the Cedar Mountain woods where he took the shelter dogs as he volunteered at the CT Humane Society in Newington. Although not fond of traveling, Bob's wife, Marianne convinced him to accompany her to Italy in 1993 where he was blessed by Pope John Paul II, witnessed the beatifications of several holy candidates, and included a pilgrimage to the home of St. Francis of Assisi. Born a Red Sox fan, Bob became a Yankee fan after he married, regularly visiting Yankee Stadium with his children and grandchildren. Of course he was also thrilled when the Mets won the Series in 1969. Marianne also encouraged Bob to travel because of his love of baseball. After his retirement, they embarked on a mission to visit all 30 professional baseball parks. This was documented by Sports Travel and Tours, and Bob and Marianne were inducted into the S.T.A.T. Baseball Stadium Tours Hall of Fame at Cooperstown, NY on July 27, 2013 for accomplishing this feat. Bob Midura will be deeply missed by his loving family and his many friends.
