Jerome D. Monchecourt of Avon, CT, died on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the age of 72. Jerome, more affectionately known as "Jerry" was born to the late George J. Monchecourt and Irene Koller on May 24, 1941 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was predeceased by his sister, Joyce (Monchecourt) Guza, his son Mark Monchecourt, his brother in law, Conor Griffin and his first wife, Sandra Jackson Monchecourt. Jerry served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was a proud alumni of Pennsylvania State University, where he graduated with a degree in Economics. He loved the Penn State Nittany Lions, just about as much as he enjoyed watching the Red Sox and the UConn Men's Basketball team winning the 2014 Championship. Jerry leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend of 25 years, Nuala Griffin of Avon and Dublin, Ireland. He also leaves behind his son Tod Monchecourt of Sarasota, FL, Tod's wife Cindy and their son Mark and Tod's mother Lyn McQueen; his step-son David Reuter, his wife Cindy of Lexington, MA, and their two sons Tyler and Hugh. He is also survived by his brother Jack Monchecourt and his wife Francois of Penfield, NY; his wife's family whom he enjoyed traveling and visiting in Ireland; John and Clare Mitchelmore, John and Mary Griffin, Michael and Catherine Griffin, Brendan and Ruth Griffin, Stephen and Marie Baker and many nieces and nephews. Jerry enjoyed many years as a member of the Hopmeadow Country Club, playing golf and cards with his buddies. Jerry will be remembered for his kindness, his laughter and the many memories spent with family and friends. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM TODAY, Friday April 25th at St. Mary's Church, 942 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Sunshine Kids Foundation c/o Berkshire Hathaway, 172 West Main Street, Avon, CT 06001.
