Eileen M. Goodyear Obituary


Eileen M. Goodyear, 79, formerly of Windsor, beloved wife of the late William V. Goodyear, Jr., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Mansfield Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation. She was born at home in New Haven on June 9, 1934 and was a daughter of the late William Joseph Mahon and Hazel Mary (Bannon) Mahon. In 1952, Eileen graduated from St. Joseph Central High School in Pittsfield, MA and later received her nursing degree from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. After her marriage to William in May of 1957, Eileen devoted her time to raising her five children and caring for her home. She was a talented seamstress and quilter who took enormous pride in creating special gifts for her family and friends. Eileen returned to work as a Registered Nurse in 1966 until she retired at the age of 70. She resided in Windsor for 31 years and was a parishioner of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church. In 2013 Eileen lived with her daughter Mary Ellen who lovingly cared for her before she transitioned to Mansfield Center. While at Mansfield Center, Eileen received gentle care from both her daughter Lynn who is an RN and her oldest granddaughter Nicole who is a CNA. Eileen leaves a son, James W. Goodyear of Traverse City, MI and four daughters, Nancy A. Sponzo of Glastonbury, Jean M. McTeague and her husband Dennis of Glastonbury, Mary Ellen Cranston and her husband Paul of Barre, MA, and Lynn T. Lawlor of Mansfield; ten grandchildren, Jeffrey, Nicole, James Richard (JR), Ashleigh, Courtney, Sarah, Brian, Morgan, Jake, Will and great-granddaughter Abbey. She also leaves a sister, Rita Mahon of North Haven, and a brother, William Mahon and his wife Jane of Lanesborough, MA as well as five nephews and a niece. Friends and family may gather at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue in Windsor on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 9 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m. in St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Windsor. Burial will be held in Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Windsor. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to Mansfield Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation, 100 Warren Circle, Storrs, CT 06268.
