Lillian Glass Payne, 82, of Hartford, CT peacefully passed away at the Hospital of Central Connecticut on April 22, 2014 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Lillian was born in Hartford on December 13, 1931 the daughter of the late Risco Glass, Sr. and Leila Brown Glass. She was raised in Hartford and was the proud mother of Linda Martin (Ralph, Jr.) of Hartford, Francis Payne, Jr. of Hartford and Stacey Payne (Randilyn) of Farmington. She also leaves her devoted sister, Rosie M. Isabell of Manchester in addition to her grandsons Sir William Cooper and Collin Payne; and her granddaughters Summer Payne, Sheenah Payne, Summer Martin, and Synthia Payne; two great-grandsons and a host of relatives and friends. Besides her parents, Lillian was predeceased by her sister Bertha M. Bowens, her brother Risco Glass, Jr., her granddaughter Jihan Payne, and Francis E. Payne, Sr. Lillian loved her Lord and grew up attending Hopewell Baptist Church where she used her beautiful soprano voice to sing in the Jordan choir. She later transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church where she taught in the Adult New Believer's classes and supported her Archbishop LeRoy Bailey, Jr. throughout his Sunday sermons with "Preach Pastor!" until illness prevented her from doing so. Among her many community activities and employment opportunities which included Hartford National Bank, Lillian thoroughly enjoyed her career as a substitute teacher at A.I. Prince Tech School. She loved the students and over the years they showed the respect and admiration they had for her. A celebration of Lillian's life will be held at 11AM on Monday May 5, 2014 at The First Cathedral Church, 1151 Blue Hills Ave., Bloomfield, CT. Calling hour is at 10AM. Interment will be private.
