Nahum "Sumner" Cutler, Jr., age 91 of Enfield, passed away with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Greenfield, MA on August 7, 1922, he was the son of the late N. Sumner and Winifred (Smith) Cutler. Sumner was a longtime resident of Enfield and on May 16, 1944, he was wed to his beloved bride, Marjorie LaGrange, for 36 years before her passing in 1980. He was a regular parishioner of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and was employed as a machinist for Pratt & Whitney for over 40 years. Sumner was a member of the Manchester Masonic Lodge, belonging to many rites. A kind, gentle soul with an unimaginable sense of humor, Sumner will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched, including his daughter, Ruth Ann (Peter) Jacobson and their son, Brian; his son, Robert (Carol) Cutler and their two sons, Allan (JoAnne) Cutler and Jason (Lindsay) Cutler; his son, William (Cynthia) Cutler and their son, Matthew Cutler; his five great-grandchildren, Lilyanna, Isabella, Jocelyn, Sophia and Lucas; his "breakfast buddy", Jack Hervey; and his cul-de-sac neighbors who took such special care of him. In addition to his parents and wife, Sumner was preceded in death by his son, Mark Cutler; and his longtime companion, Patricia Keating. A funeral service for Sumner will be celebrated on Friday, May 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 383 Hazard Ave. Interment will follow in Enfield Street Cemetery. His family will receive relatives and friends at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd. from 9 - 10:30 a.m. prior to a procession to the church.
