Foster E. Crooke Obituary

Foster E. Crooke, (age 92), of Avon, CT., formerly of South Hadley, MA., quietly departed this life on May 7, 2014. He was the husband of the late Betty (Scheuer) Crooke for 62 years. Foster was born in South Hadley, MA on June 22, 1921 to Edith (Kelley) Crooke and Albert Crooke. Foster served in WWII in the Army Air Corp as a staff sergeant and was stationed in Alaska as a flight dispatcher. Upon his return, he worked at the Eureka Blank Book Company in Holyoke, MA for 40 years as a lithographer and then the General Manager of the plant. He built his own house in South Hadley in 1949, at a time when construction materials where scarce and qualified builders were hard to find. He was a member of the South Hadley, MA Methodist Church his entire life, and they were the recipients of his many talents such as ushering, being the treasurer and helping in other ways to enhance the congregation. He blessed those around him with his grace and smile. Left behind him to mourn his passing are his son, Richard and his wife Bonny Crooke of Grand Junction, CO, their daughters, Kelly Crooke and her husband Greg Lietza, Sandra Crooke and her daughter, Cassidy O'Grady, and Erin Crooke. Foster also leaves his son, Kenneth and his wife Christina Crooke formerly of Pine Meadow, CT, and their daughter, Holly Dolan, and their son, Travis Crooke. In addition, he also leaves behind his devoted niece, Sally Crooke Kneiser of Beaufort, SC. Foster was a true gentleman and a kind spirit. He will be deeply missed and is an inspiration to all whose lives he touched. A memorial service will be held on May 17th at 11:00 AM at the North Congregational Church, 17 Church Street North in New Hartford, CT. Calling hours will be at the church on the 17th from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 5 Steele Road, New Hartford has care of the arrangements.
