Eleanor (Sears) Radda Obituary

Eleanor (Sears) Radda, 90, of Newington, widow of Maynard Radda, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014 at her home. Born December 25, 1923 in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada, daughter of the late Herbert and Bessie (McCallum) Sears, she lived in Newington since 1956. A graduate of New Britain High School, Eleanor served in the Canadian Army during World War II. She was an LPN at New Britain General Hospital, worked at Landers, Frary and Clark in New Britain and later worked at Thrifty Drug in Newington. Eleanor loved to knit and crochet and shared her talents with family and friends, who were recipients of her lovingly handmade gifts. Surviving is her daughter, Kim Radda of Newington; her grandson, Loren Sanchez-Radda and his partner Jennie Fiddler of Brooklyn, NY; a brother, William Sears of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Eleanor was predeceased by a son, Mark Radda and a brother, Douglas Sears. The family wishes to thank Drs. Byrne, Ceplenski and Kositsawat, APRN Kerry Rauch, the staff of the Betty Larus Adult Day Center, home care aides and companions, and the VNA Healthcare Hospice team for their compassionate care and support. Calling hours are Thursday evening (May 15) 5 to 7 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. A Service of Remembrance will take place at 6:30 PM during the calling hours. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
